A stunning and rare matched mortar & pestle set stamped Thos. Maddock’s Sons Co – Made in U.S.A. This heavy ironstone laboratory/pharmacy mortar was manufactured in Trenton, New Jersey between the late 1800s and early 1900s, and features the characteristic impressed mark and “acid proof” stamp associated with early scientific and apothecary tools.
This set is in remarkably well-preserved condition with no cracks or chips, and the original pestle matches perfectly — a rarity for a piece of this age. The grinding interior shows appropriate surface texture for use and authenticity, while the exterior has a smooth, vitrified finish with mild discoloration from time and handling.
Whether displayed in a farmhouse kitchen, medical office, or apothecary-themed collection, this piece brings authenticity and history to any space.
